Give You Home a Boost, Try Pencil Pleat Curtains ala Hotel Rooms

Checking in a hotel, probably among the first thing you will notice is its curtain. I don’t if it’s only me, but I really adore curtains in hotels. I like how they just hang on there but they give the whole ambiance the right push to where it is supposed to be. Most hotel curtains are actually heavy, I did not try to steal one and place it on my baggage if you are wondering. I just say it’s heavy because the way it drops to the floor makes that apparent.

Anyway, as I examined these curtains, it is as if the hotel had used tons of fabrics to hang on their windows, layers per layer, they hang there. They don’t just hang they bluntly, they actually sashay. They sashay looks more enticing because they are not placed flat as a wall. As if they have waves. That’s a major requirement, curtains are not supposed to lie flat with the wall. They must give it texture. Most of the hotels would just leave creases by not stretching the fabric, so that means the curtain must be bigger that the window in length. What fascinated me more was when I saw that some hotels used pleats. Pencil pleat curtains this must be the trend nowadays.

The pencil pleat curtains are actually a product of the contemporary positioning of the curtains, remember: not flat with the wall. It’s actually easier and would entail less time in installing. Since the pencil pleat curtains have installed pleats, the curtain can be thrown flat back to the wall yet it will never look flat. See, these pleats would remain no matter how much we pull the curtain at either side. Do you agree that curtains are so much cheaper than having your house constantly repainted to change its look? Please agree with me.

Yes, these pencil pleat curtains may cost a little more than the usual curtains as they require more fabric with the built-in pleats feeding on the fabric size. However, if you are still a little tight on the budget, you don’t need to buy new pencil pleat curtains, you can actually turn your blunt curtains into pencil pleat curtains in just easy steps. With perseverance, you will be able to dress up your homes with a new look, without costing too much.

All you’ll need is a needle, thread which matches the color of your curtain, and of course, a curtain, preferably longer that the window, and a little artistic side. Make sure to pick the side which gets into the curtain rod, you don’t want to have pleats at the bottom of your curtains, don’t you? I suggest it would be better to start at the middle, working your way to the sides, start by pinching a portion of the curtain, be creative, make the pleat look a little attractive, then sew it. There you have your first pleat, you can do the same procedure to the sides until the whole curtain gets done. Before you know it, you have made a new curtain to decorate your home. You can even decide the distance between the pleats.

Before I forgot, there’s actually two kinds of pleats you can try, there are the pressed pleats, and the unpressed pleats. The pressed, of course, needs to be pressed to achieve the look. They look more like skirts of school girls, get the picture? The unpressed pleats on the other hand are the ones usually used for curtains. Like what I tried to teach you, they are just pinched at the top to give them the texture necessary from keeping them from being dull and unattractive.

Pencil pleat curtains are a good way to change a dull home to a hotel like ambiance. It does not always have to be expensive.
